This guide covers everything first-time travelers wish they had known ahead of time — from navigating public restrooms to understanding Italian meal times. And because I’ve wandered those streets myself (sometimes a little lost but always delighted), you’ll find a personal story tucked in here too. Let’s get you ready! Let’s Talk Shoes… and a Sweet Italian Surprise
Now, Y’all… this Southern girl may have a suitcase full of neutral sundresses and a heart full of wanderlust, but I will never sacrifice practicality for fashion on a trip. My sisters always encourage me to be more “trendy,” and I truly thought Italy might be the place to try it.

And then I remembered… cobblestones are real, ancient, and everywhere. I still remember walking back to our hotel from the Trevi Fountain with My Prince. We took a wrong turn (okay, a few), crossed a little bridge, went down another stone street, wove through alleys that seemed to appear from nowhere — and suddenly… There it was.

A carousel in the middle of Rome. A twinkling, nostalgic, pure-magic carousel just waiting for us to stumble upon it. And Y’all know I love a carousel. They’re my favorite kind of unexpected joy.
If I had worn the cute Italian footwear my sisters recommended? My feet would’ve been screaming. But because I stuck with practical tennis shoes, I didn’t miss a moment of that magic. Practical wins. Every single time.
